On the 13th of May, 2024 our Chief of Party, Pharm. Uchenna Okafor, joined a distinguished delegation of senior management officials on a pivotal study visit to Ghana. The delegation was led by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Registrar, Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu, and included esteemed leaders such as Pharm. Remi Adeseun, a member of the SFH Board of Trustees, and Pharm. Kene Eruchalu, SFH Deputy Managing Director.
The primary objective of this international visit was to delve into the operational successes of Ghana’s National Electronic Pharmacy Platform (NEPP). Ghana has established itself as a leader in leveraging digital solutions to enhance pharmaceutical service delivery, and this visit provided a unique opportunity to learn firsthand from their achievements and challenges.
During the study visit, the delegation engaged with key stakeholders, including representatives from Ghana’s Pharmacy Council, technology providers, and community pharmacists. The discussions centered around understanding the technological framework, governance structures, and regulatory mechanisms that have contributed to the success of the NEPP in improving access to safe, effective, and affordable medications for Ghanaians.
These insights will be instrumental in shaping the ePharma4fp project and other e-pharmacy initiatives in Nigeria, ensuring they are tailored to the unique needs of the Nigerian healthcare landscape. By adopting best practices and innovative strategies, we aim to advance the development and optimization of e-pharmacy platforms in Nigeria, making quality healthcare services more accessible to all.
This collaboration underscores our unwavering commitment to driving transformative healthcare innovations. As we continue to explore and implement cutting-edge solutions, we remain dedicated to improving health outcomes for Nigerians, particularly through projects like SFH’s ePharma4fp, which focuses on expanding access to family planning products and services.
